Week One: Advertisement (still)

1) The goal of this advertisement is to get more people, particularly families, to visit Disneyland Paris (DLRP)

2) The argument is that if you visit DLRP you and your family will have a fun and exciting time.

3) The audience is families who can afford a vacation and would visit DLRP specifically (as opposed to the other Disney resorts).

4) While there may be some logos (if you come to DLRP you will have a good time) and some ethos (credibility is not so much established in the advertisement as already assumed to be established with the audience. In other words, the ad counts on Disney’s already well-established reputation and simply makes it clear that it is behind the advertisement) the ad largely depends on pathos, appealing to the familiar emotions related to Disney and the emotions associated with family and vacation. It utilizes familiar images and icons such as the multiple Mickey Mouse symbols and Mickey Mouse himself who is the focus of the advertisement, other Disney characters, sleeping beauty's castle etc. These along with the fireworks are used to create an feeling of excitement and fun in the reader and to top it all off, it is presented in such a way that the reader imagines him or herself already at DLRP (which is the goal of the ad) with their family either holding the balloon personally or more likely a child holding the balloon in which most of the ad is depicted.

5) By causing the reader to imagine his or herself already at DLRP experiencing many of the emotions that he or she would actually experience at DLRP with their family, it effectively achieves the goal of the article which in the short term is to spark interest, and get readers to go to the website posted in the corner of the article and eventually to visit DLRP with their family.

6) Because of the reasons stated in part (5) this advertisement does present Sufficient argument to get the reader to visit the website where they will be further enticed to visit DLRP. The content and argument is also very Relevant to the argument and goal of advertisement. It is meant to get the reader to think about what it would be like to be at DLRP and does so by presenting an actual scene that could take place there, even if exaggerated.
